US Compliance Testing

We verify BIFMA, ASTM, CARB P2, CAL TB 117, CPSIA, and Prop 65 compliance — the standards US Customs and retailers require.

Reduced Return Rates

Our clients report 70–90% fewer quality-related returns after implementing our pre-shipment inspection program. The inspection pays for itself on the first container.

We Test to US Standards

BIFMA

Office furniture performance and durability testing (BIFMA X5 series). Required by most US office furniture retailers.

ASTM F2057

Furniture stability and tip-over resistance testing. Critical for children's furniture and dressers sold in the US market.

CAL TB 117

California flammability standard for upholstered furniture. Required for any furniture sold in California.

CARB P2

Formaldehyde emission limits for composite wood products. Federal requirement for all furniture containing plywood, MDF, or particleboard.

CPSIA

Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Lead and phthalate limits for children's furniture products.

Prop 65

California Proposition 65 chemical exposure warnings. Required labeling for furniture sold in or shipped to California.

Case Study

How we helped a California furniture brand reduce defect rates from 15% to under 2%

A mid-size US retailer sourcing dining sets from Binh Duong was experiencing high return rates due to finish defects and loose joints. We implemented a 3-stage inspection program (PPI + DUPRO + PSI) that caught issues at the production stage — before they became expensive warranty claims.

28 Years of Furniture QC
Expertise in Vietnam.

Founded by industry veterans who have been shaping Vietnam's furniture manufacturing landscape since 1997. We don't just find defects — we understand the production processes in Binh Duong and Dong Nai factories that cause them.

Deep Local Roots

We have been in Vietnam's furniture industry for over 20 years. We know the factories, the owners, the regional production dynamics — and the common shortcuts that lead to costly claims.

Operating across HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An.

Technical Precision

Our background in Civil and Mechanical Engineering means we examine structural integrity, load-bearing capacity, and material science — not just surface-level aesthetics.

Tools: moisture meters, digital calipers, drop-test equipment.

Furniture Specialists Only

Most agencies are generalists. We are not. Furniture is all we do. We understand the manufacturing processes that cause defects — before they become your problem.

Deep experience with US retailers including Arhaus, Redwood, and Green River.

Automation-Driven Reporting

We use proprietary data tools to deliver faster, more accurate reports than traditional manual agencies. Every defect is photographed, classified, and delivered digitally.

AQL Defect Standards

Every defect found during inspection is photographed and classified per ISO 2859-1. Our reports use a three-tier system so you know exactly what to accept, negotiate, or reject.

CriticalCR
Automatic FAIL — shipment hold

Defects that render the product unsafe, non-functional, or in violation of regulatory requirements.

  • Structural collapse or broken load-bearing joint
  • Sharp exposed metal / splinters causing injury risk
  • Missing safety hardware (anti-tip, child lock)
  • Incorrect item shipped (wrong SKU/model)
  • Pest infestation (live insects in wood)
MajorMA
Likely FAIL — negotiation required

Defects that are clearly visible to the end consumer or that reduce the product's functionality and perceived value.

  • Deep scratches, dents or gouges on visible surfaces
  • Significant color mismatch vs. approved sample
  • Misaligned drawers, doors or mismatched gaps
  • Hardware functional failure (hinge, drawer slide)
  • Finish bubbling, peeling or uneven coating
MinorMI
PASS with note — concession possible

Slight deviations from standard that are unlikely to be noticed by the end consumer under normal use conditions.

  • Very slight color variation within tolerance
  • Small mark or scratch on non-visible surface
  • Minor roughness on underside / interior surface
  • Slight variation in grain pattern (within spec)
  • Packaging cosmetic damage (product intact)

Common Wood Defects

Our inspectors are trained to identify these defects before they become your problem. Each has a specific inspection protocol and tolerance standard.

Checking / Cracking

Critical / Major

Separation of wood fibers along the grain, typically caused by rapid or uneven drying. Can progress to full splitting in destination climate.

Prevention

Pre-production MC% check. Target 6–9% for US Midwest / EU destinations.

flat8mm bow

Warping / Bowing

Critical / Major

Distortion of the wood panel or component — includes bow, cup, twist, and crook. Caused by moisture imbalance or improper storage.

Prevention

Straightedge check on all flat components. Max tolerance: 1mm per 300mm length.

Knots & Voids

Major / Minor

Natural wood defect from branch inclusion. Dead knots can fall out leaving voids. Grade-dependent — acceptable in rustic, not in clear-grade product.

Prevention

Compare against approved material sample. Confirm grade specification in PO.

Blue Stain

Stain / Discoloration

Major / Minor

Fungal staining (blue stain), chemical reaction marks, or mineral streaks. Affects aesthetic quality and indicates storage conditions.

Prevention

Raw material inspection under natural and UV light before production begins.

delamination

Delamination (Veneer)

Critical / Major

Separation of veneer layer from substrate. Caused by inadequate glue spread, low pressing pressure, or moisture contamination.

Prevention

Tap-test panel edges. Check glue coverage specs with factory QC records.

Exit holes — ISPM 15 required

Insect / Borer Damage

Critical

Exit holes from wood-boring insects (powder post beetle, longhorn beetle). Automatic fail — quarantine risk at US/EU customs.

Prevention

ISPM 15 kiln treatment verification. Check heat treatment certificate for all solid wood.

Target MC% by Destination

Wood moisture content must match the equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of the destination climate. This is the single most preventable cause of solid wood furniture defects on arrival.

US Midwest / Rocky Mountain
6 – 8%
US Southeast / Gulf Coast
9 – 11%
Northern Europe
7 – 9%
UK / Ireland
9 – 11%

What Importers Say.

We've been importing from Vietnam for 12 years and FurnitureQC is the only inspection company we trust. Their reports are so thorough our own QA team in the US has adopted their defect classification system.
🇺🇸
David M.
VP Sourcing, Mid-size US Furniture Retailer
The moisture content issue alone saved us a $400,000 container. Their inspector caught elevated MC% in solid oak components that would have caused cracking in the Midwest climate. This is why you hire specialists.
🇩🇪
Sophie L.
Head of Procurement, European Home Group
What I value most is their local relationships. They can walk into a factory in Binh Duong and the production manager takes them seriously. That dynamic changes everything about what they can actually inspect.

Owner, Australian Contract Furniture Importer

"Reduced returns." "Peace of mind." "The inspection paid for itself on the first container."
